National Parks in Hungary

"Hungary is more favourably situated than any other country in Europe.

The northern territories and the south, the plains and the mountains, the forests, rivers, and marshes lie in embrace of the Northern, the Black, the Baltic, and the Mediterranean Seas from the great northeastern flatlands to the Alps." This is how the renowned 19th century natural scientist Alfred Edmund Brehm described Hungary.

The world has changed much since then, much has fallen victim to the inevitable changes brought on by time.

But much has remained in the shape of national parks and conservation areas that draw an increasing number of nature lovers year by year.

Hungary has 10 national parks, 145 minor nature reserves and 35 landscape protection areas.

This list includes national parks only. The Aggtelek and Hortobágy National Parks are also UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
